How do you tell if you have dry hair?

How do you tell if you have dry hair? Is my condition below considered as dry hair?

Ive been using a conditioner and my hair is softer but I have a problem. My hair still doesnt fall nicely into place together. This is especially so at the ends of my hair where my hair curls to different directions. There are many stray strands of hair and I want my hair to be neater. Why is my hair like this? Is this dry hair? Anything I can do about it?

PS my hair near the fringe is slightly wavy and I have middle-length hair and am a maleHow do you tell if you have dry hair?
If your hair is soft and shiny and you have been using conditioner I doubt it's dry. Probably what you have is curly or wavy layered hair that is still getting its act together.

My husband's hair was stick-straight until he was 12 and then it started going off in all directions, and he still has thick, curly hair and it's as you describe yours. It's not dry, just full of texture.

The only way he has managed to get it to be super-neat is to get it cut to about 1/2';. I don't know your texture but this might help. But usually he lets it get longer and lets the curls go wherever, sort of Harry Potter style.

If you have curly hair you're lucky. You can do lots of interesting textures and shapes with it and girls do love curly hair. I know because they are always telling me how cute his hair is.

Another thing you might do is go to a beauty supply store or the shampoo section of a supermarket and look for products that have the words polisher, smooth, or frizz-ease in their names. There are products that are there to smooth down flyaways, but if you pick the wrong one or use too much you could end up sort of greasy-looking, so take it easy at first and maybe you'll have to try a couple of different sorts. Crew is a good line of hair products for guys and has a good scent, not girly or anything like that.

I'd suggest making an appointment at a good salon and ask the stylist to talk to you about your hair. She can help you identify where the cowlicks are, the direction of growth, natural parts, and how your hairline is acting - s/he can help you find ways to work with your hair and give it a hot style instead of fighting against it. It's possible that it is actually your hair cut and not your hair itself that is out of shape, and she or he can shape it up right for you. My stylist says the worst thing you can do is fight against your hair. The stylist might recommend some products and might style your hair in a way you don't like at first - that's just preference, don't worry about it. You'll still get some good information and you can always wash out the product as soon as you get home (this is what my husband does every time he gets a haircut.)

Choose a GOOD salon and expect to pay about $40, but believe me, it's WORTH IT!! If this is too steep a ticket, go to the local hair college or the cosmetology department of your high school and see who they recommend. Not all students are ready to work but every class always has one hotshot that has a good handle on what they are doing.

The shampoo section of the supermarket often has magazines that are full of nothing but hairstyles, and there are hairstyle websites too, so you can spend some time snooping around and finding pictures of men's hairstyles that you admire and that you think would look sharp on you. Take these photos to the hairstylist and it will give him or her a better idea of what your tastes are.

The grass is always greener, yo. Everyone I've ever met whether their hair was straight or curly has wished it was the other way around - myself included! How do you tell if you have dry hair?
I'm not a hair specialist - but you may have split ends or breakage, which can cause that stray strands-disobedient look. In that case, get a trim, and buy a product that emphasizes hair repair/mending/for breakage or damaged hair. Also, you may want to try using a leave-in conditioner. This does wonders for the hair, especially when used regularly. Avoid products with alcohol, as this dries out the hair. Hope it works out for ya. :)
just cuz ur hair goes in diffirent directions does not mean that it's dry. it's just the way ur hair naturally falls and to fix that u'll have to invest in a straightening serum. apply it to the end and comb into place...blowdrying might help too.
just put on some hair gel
you no you have dry hair when u start geting dangureand this may be how your hair is
This is happening for either two reason.

Reason 1: You need a gentle pomade or hair gel to allow your hair to lay the appropriate way.

Reason 2: You have dead ends that need to be trimmed so that your hair can be healthier, neater and lay the right way.
its called wavy hair. buy some hair dye and comb it into place while its working. hair dye has relaxer in it.
It becomes scalpy causing dandruff!
sounds like you need a trim...it's weighing down and it's just not manageable.
Your hair goes that way becuaes its wavy, get a straightening serum so it can be straight. Your hair needs to get a trim you need to get the split/dead ends cutten off or it will cuase more breakage to your hair. Hopefully after that it will be okay but if isn't get Pantene Pro-V Restoratives Breakage Defense products (shampoo, conditioner) maybe even the refining mask depending on how bad it is.
